OUTDOOR AUDIO PLANNING
Start with where people gather.
Dinner on the terrace and an evening by the fire call for different listening areas. Outdoor audio system planning begins with those places, their distance from the house and the level of music that feels comfortable while people talk.
SES can shape the system around the landscape rather than asking one loud pair of speakers to reach every corner. The first decision is where the music belongs: a covered lounge, an open dining patio, a garden path or several spaces that need independent control.
MAP THE EXPERIENCE
Give each gathering place a purpose.
Dining
Keep background music comfortable at every chair, including the seats nearest a speaker. Conversation should remain easy.
Lounge
Plan coverage around the actual seating group. A shaded porch and an open fire-pit area may need different placement and volume settings.
Garden
Decide which paths and planting areas need sound and which should stay quiet. Identify the property edge and nearby neighboring seating.
PATIO OR LANDSCAPE
Let the layout guide the speaker approach.

For a defined covered patio, outdoor-rated surface speakers may be an appropriate starting point. Review mounting locations, the nearest seats, architectural finishes and how sound travels beyond the roofline.
For a larger open terrace, speakers distributed through planting beds can bring the sound closer to each listening area. Placement should coordinate with irrigation, mature plant growth, gardeners and access for future service. The landscape plan and audio plan need the same boundaries.
SONANCE OUTDOOR AUDIO
Three ways to bring Sonance outdoors.

Sonance Patio Series
For a compact outdoor living area, start with Patio 4.1: four satellite speakers and one 8-inch in-ground subwoofer. Sonance describes coverage up to 1,000 square feet. A configuration with the UA2-125 amplifier is also offered. SES can assess speaker positions and the right system for your patio.

Sonance Garden Series
For a broader garden listening area, consider the SGS 8.1 System: eight satellite speakers and one 10-inch in-ground subwoofer, with manufacturer coverage up to 3,500 square feet. Sonance also offers an SGS 8.1 configuration with the DSP 2-150 MKIII amplifier. SES can coordinate the layout with planting beds and seating.

Sonance Landscape Series
For a larger or more complex site, explore a scalable design using LS4T SAT or LS6T SAT satellite speakers. Subwoofer options include the in-ground LS12T SUB and LS15T SUB, or the HS12T SUB for hardscape placement. Selectable transformer taps support a tailored 70V/100V system. SES can specify the components and amplification around the property.
These are manufacturer planning descriptions, not coverage guarantees for your property. Shape, obstructions, speaker positions, background noise and the desired listening level determine the final design. SES should confirm the current components and amplifier requirements before specifying a system.
BEFORE PAVING OR PLANTING
Protect the routes you will need later.
Mark the equipment location, cable paths, crossings beneath hardscape and access points while the site is still easy to work on. Ask SES to coordinate suitable outdoor cabling, connections, power and equipment protection with the landscape and construction teams.
Decide whether the patio shares music with the house or operates as its own zone. Confirm the control method and network coverage at the seats where people will use it. An attractive finished garden should not require another excavation to add a missing route or make a connection serviceable.
COMFORT AT THE EDGE
Listen from the seats and the boundary.

CEDIA recommends deliberate zoning, speaker direction and tuning to manage outdoor sound spill. During commissioning, SES can check the main seats and the property boundary with the system at the levels you intend to use.
Aim for consistent listening within the gathering area rather than increasing volume to reach a distant seat. Bass, reflections, nearby buildings and open air can affect what others hear. No placement promises silent property lines; thoughtful design and considerate volume habits work together.
WEATHER AND SEASONAL CARE
Plan for the whole system outdoors.
Match each component to its actual exposure and the manufacturer’s installation requirements. A speaker beneath a roof, a satellite in an irrigated bed and an amplifier need different decisions about moisture, mounting, drainage, temperature and access.
Ask SES for a maintenance plan appropriate to the selected equipment. Useful review points include shifted mounts, blocked grilles or openings, landscape changes and visible cable or connection damage. Agree on any seasonal shutdown or protection steps with the installer instead of assuming every component can be treated alike.
START WITH SES
Bring the garden plan to the conversation.
Send photos or a site plan, the dining and lounge locations, the spaces that should remain quiet, your preferred music and control routine, and the timing of upcoming landscape work. SES can review the site and develop a coordinated outdoor-audio estimate.
